Caring for Your Gardenzilla Urn or Container
If
taken care of properly, every Gardenzilla piece has been designed
to provide years of use in the outdoors. As a matter of fact,
many of our pieces improve with age and take on a unique look
as they weather.
There
are several simple things you can do to make sure your new Gardenzilla
urn or container will last. For protection, products can be raised
up on a cement, brick, stone, or ceramic base, to avoid direct
contact with moist ground.
When
planting we recommend using a plastic pot or drainage saucer so,
come winter, the plant can be easily removed. In addition, breathing
room around the pot is a must, so make sure to prune back existing
plants.
Ironzilla
Care
Ironzilla
cast iron pieces are meant to have an aged look. Without any special
treatment, Ironzilla urns and containers will weather naturally
when left outdoors. To postpone natural corrosion on your Ironzilla
planter, coat the piece with alkyd enamel or acrylic resin formulated
for use on metal.
You
can keep your Ironzilla urn or container from weathering at all
by gently cleaning away as much rust as possible with fine steel
wool and lightweight lubricating oil or mineral spirits. After
cleaning, apply an acrylic resin or hard-paste wax that is high
in carnuba. To stabilize the corrosion, apply a rust-converting
product such as Rust-Oleum spray enamel paint, which is available
in most hardware stores.
Also, remember that standing water or wet soil will damage the
cast-iron finish of an Ironzilla urn or container and can cause
the piece to become sensitive to cracking or chipping, especially
if the water is allowed to freeze.
Rustzilla Water-Feature Ornament Care
The
interiors of Rustilla fiberglass wall fountains are coated with
asphalt emulsionÑa roofing product available at most hardware
stores. To ensure the longevity of your new fountain, we suggest
draining and recoating the inside once a year to maintain its
waterproof state. Let it dry overnight before refilling.
Bronzilla
Care
Wash
Bronzilla fiberglass pieces at least once a year during warm,
dry weather with a mild detergent, water and a scrub brush. Dry
overnight, then with a paintbrush apply a hard paste wax with
a high carnuba content. Never use a spray wax. Let dry overnight,
then buff to remove any excess wax.
Or
you would like your new Bronzilla piece to develop a natural patina,
wash, but leave unwaxed.
Remember,
some wear and tear is inevitable if your Gardenzilla product is
kept outside. But with proper care, your urn or container will
enhance the look of the garden for years to come.
